Brussels, 06/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the Commission proposed banning the use of cadmium batteries in electric vehicles by 31 December 2005. This was taken with the knowledge that there were already alternatives for replacing this heavy metal that is dangerous to both humans and the environment. This ban will mean amending Directive 200/53/EC.
