McCartin recommends Parliament grant Commission discharge on implementation of Budget 2000

Brussels, 20/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - John Joseph McCartin (EPP-ED, Ireland), who presented his draft report to the EP's Committee on Budgetary Control (Cocobu), recommended that his colleagues give discharge to the European Commission for implementation of the Budget 2000, although the Budget 2000 is characterised by an "exceptionally high" surplus (EUR 11.6 billion, i.e. 14% of the total), a significant rise in the volume of fraud and irregularities (EUR 2 billion) and shortcomings in the...
