The Dutch distributor AHOLD (turnover EUR 66.6 billion in 2001, up 27% compared to the previous financial year) has announced that its American subsidiary STOP & SHOP (annual turnover around $10 billion) is preparing to buy up American BIG V SUPERMARKETS, a group of bankrupt supermarkets, for the sum of $255 million.
