Closure of anti-dumping procedure for Turkish colour TVs

Brussels, 18/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to close, without any follow-up, the anti-dumping procedure opened against imports of colour TVs from Turkey since the products are not of Turkish origin at all since their main components come from third countries (China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand) that are already covered by anti-dumping measures that are currently being re-examined. The decision was published in Official Journal L 272 and points out that colour TVs' country of origin is not necessarily the country where the end product is manufactured or assembled, but is sometimes the country where over 35% (in value) of the components were manufactured. This applies to the case in question where a priori the TVs are subject to dumping and the origin was considered - in line with the specific origin rules for TVs - as being the country of the cathode ray tubes used when they were assembled in Turkey. The country where the cathode ray tubes (which alone make up more than 35% of the TVs' factory gate price) were made is not Turkey.
