Luxembourg, 18/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - Eurostat and the Member States' statistical offices have launched a new internet site exclusively devoted to euro-indicators, giving access to a group of harmonised statistics covering the eurozone, the EU and Member States, which were hitherto only consultable on separate sites.
A striking feature of the euro-indicators site (http://www.europa.eu.int/comm/euroindicators ) is the diversity of data, the length of series and the frequency of updating. It gives access to more than 7,000 statistical series in eight domains: national accounts; consumer prices; industry, trade and services; the labour market; external trade; balance of payments; monetary and financial indicators; and business and consumer surveys conducted by the European Commission's Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate-General. The database, which is updated every day, aims to provide information spanning at least 15 years.
Access to the site is free, although a subscription is payable to access the central database. Anyone can consult the main infra-annual economic indicators for the eurozone and the EU, including the growth rates for the last twelve months. The following are also accessible free of charge: euro-indicators release schedule; press releases on euro-indicators; metadata; publications from the "Statistics in focus" series devoted to euro-indicators; working documents; and quality reports.
