Parliament hopes EU will grant right of asylum to girls whose physical integrity is threatened in country of origin

Brussels, 21/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption by 319 votes to 9 and 161 abstentions of the report by Spanish Socialist Elena Valenciano Martinez-Orozco on female genital mutilation (FGM), the European Parliament trusts that the Commission and the Council, as well as the Member States, will take measures concerning the granting of permits to stay and protection for the victims of such practices, and recognise the right of asylum for women, adolescents and girls that are threatened...
