Commission hauls United Kingdom before Court for not providing for equitable remuneration for broadcasting musical works in public places

Brussels, 27/07/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to refer the United Kingdom to the Court of Justice as its legislation does not provide for remunerating musicians when their works are played in public places. The Commission considers that the broadcast of these works, as in the case, for example, as background music in shops, is not one of the exceptions permitted by Directive 92/100 on rental and lending rights and certain rights related to copyright in the field...
