ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) banks

The ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND announced the acquisition of a network of branches from the MELLON group for USD 2.1 billion, thus doubling its size in the United States. CITIZENS, American subsidiary of the British bank, will add to its 330 branches the 345 branches of MELLON (USD 13.4 billion in assets with 4,135 employees), allowing it to rise to the 19 place of commercial banks in the United States.
