EP rejects most of Fischler's proposals for tackling slump on beef market

Brussels, 17/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday in Strasbourg, with the adoption by 459 votes to 21 and 26 abstentions, of the report by British Conservative Robert Sturdy on the different measures proposed by Franz Fischler to tackle the slump on the beef market, the Parliament considered as insufficient the proposals made by the European Commission and called for the adoption of more extensive farming methods (see details in EUROPE of 12 May, p.11).
