French Minister for Foreign Affairs feels EU must play "a true political role" in Middle East

Brussels, 03/05/2001 (Agence Europe) - Following the visit he made last weekend to Damascus, Hubert Védrine, French Minister for Foreign Affairs, underlined that the meetings he had with the highest Syrian authorities had confronted him with his belief that the Europeans have an "intense" role to play in the Middle East, reports the French newspaper "Le Monde" in its edition of 2 May.
