02/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - On the initiative of Anna Diamantopoulou, the European Commission adopted its "Annual Report on Gender Equality in the EU in 2000". The Commission's spokesperson stressed that in three years (1997, 198 and 1999), Germany was the only EU country where the gap between men and women's wages had ceased widening, and Spain was the only country where the gap between the rate of employment between men and women continues to grow.
