Germany's BERTELSMANN is said to have proposed to the British giant EMI merging with its subsidiary BMG to create the world's foremost music production and publishing group with a turnover of £5.6 bn and almost a quarter of the market. In exchange, it would take a "substantial" share in the new enlarged entity.
