European Commission proposes reduction of noise pollution and polluting emissions from recreational craft

Brussels, 27/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has proposed that Community legislation in force on recreational craft should be amended in order to reduce the authorised limits for exhaust gas emissions and engine noise. The current directive (Directive 94/25/EC) came into force in June 1998. Pleasure boats, mostly with motors (3.6 million of the 4.6 million sold in 1998 in the EEA plus Switzerland) are, generally speaking, used in recreational areas and often cause noise...
