Parliament seeks to finance aid in Balkans without revision of financial perspectives and without, if possible, sacrificing aid to Mediterranean countries

Strasbourg, 24/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission and the European Parliament have practically renounced calling for revision of the multiannual financial perspectives in order to finance aid to the Balkans. This goal will be pursued with different budgetary measures (use of unused 2000 credits, the flexibility instrument …) and by attributing smaller funding to the Meda programme than that proposed by the Commission.
