Brussels, 19/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - On a proposal by Commissioner Anna Diamantopoulou, the European Commission has agreed to introduce gender balance in its expert groups and committees. The medium-term objective is to have at least 40% of each sex in each group or committee. The Commission will try to correct the lack of balance between the sexes with each replacement appointment and at the expiration of present mandates.
