European Commission states footballers may break their contracts by paying "equitable" compensation

Brussels, 19/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission will have to take a negative decision on the existing rules unless the FIFA (international football association) comes up with new proposals on rules for transferring players from one club to another, said Amelia Torres, European Commission spokesperson for competition on Monday.
