Continued support for refugee return

Brussels, 21/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has adopted two decisions in order to pursue its action to provide support for the return of refugees and displaced persons in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The decisions concern:

- The integrated Obnova return programme, with a budget of EUR 50.1 million, for the implementation of measures allowing for support to returning to "tough" municipalities, so far closed (including in the Serbian Republic of Bosnia) and to the regional return flows from Croatia. The programme, which will complete similar programmes implemented in 1998 and 1999, comprises the establishment of a fund allowing for rapid mobilisation of resources, and will represent about half of the total aid granted to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2000 within the context of the Obnova programme.

- Continued support of EUR 2 million granted to the committee on disputes over real estate (CRPC) created within the framework of the Dayton Agreements to settle ownership disputes. The CRPC, which received more than 175,000 requests and took around 65,000 definitive and binding decisions, has benefited since 1996 from Commission support of EUR 5.7 million.
