Commission feels that EU cannot unilaterally tax aviation fuels, but recommends rapid adoption of European Directive on energy taxation

Brussels, 10/03/2000 (Agence Europe) - Wanted for environmental reasons, the tax on jet fuels will be too prejudicial for European competitiveness if it was unilaterally decided by the European Union. This is the conclusion reached by the European Commission in the study that it will submit on Monday to the Economic and Financial Committee (see Other article on pages 6/7).
