12/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - The Union of German Electricity Producers (VdEW) has expressed surprise that the European Commission has not yet stated its view on the agreement on the use of electrical networks signed on 13 December last by the electricity companies and industrialists. The VdEW finds it incomprehensible that Commission services in Brussels are examining in detail the situation in Germany (where the electricity market has been 100% liberalised and agreements are concluded freely between buyers and users), whereas France, for example, has not yet transposed into national legislation the directive on the opening of markets. According to the German press, the Commission services disapprove of the division of the German market into two zones, which in their opinion could create a dominant position to the detriment of foreign suppliers.
