"Joint Statement of WTO" confirms identical Euro-Japanese view on envisaged new round of trade negotiations - Very broad agenda, "multifunctional role of agriculture

Brussels, 12/01/2000 (Agence Europe) - "The Joint Statement" adopted on Tuesday by the European Commission and the Japanese Government on the WTO (see yesterday's EUROPE, pp.6/7) confirms that they have practically identical views on the envisaged international trade negotiations. In particular:

  • the agenda must be broad, comprising anti-dumping, competition, investments, etc.

  • the new round must take account of non-trade concerns (environment, social questions, etc,);
