On Tuesday, 28 July, the European Commission adopted definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of polyamide yarn from China. These duties range from 60% to 67.6%.
At the end of an investigation, the European Commission concluded that Chinese polyamide yarn enters the EU at a very low cost, causing injury to the European polyamide yarn industry. This sector employs around 2,000 people in Croatia, Italy, Spain, Romania, and Slovenia and represents a market worth €400 million.
Polyamide yarn is used in various industries, such as the textile industry. It is notably used to make outerwear, sportswear, hats, and swimwear. It is also useful in home furnishings and in the medical field.
Reacting to this news, Denis Redonnet—the deputy director-general at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade who is now responsible for trade dialogue with Beijing—stated, “Fair competition matters, whether we’re talking about advanced technologies or the materials used in everyday products. […] These measures help ensure that European manufacturers can compete on fair terms” (see EUROPE 13916/21).
