Frontex considers single platform for storing aerial and maritime surveillance data

28/07/2026 (Agence Europe)The Frontex agency launched a market study on Monday 27 July with a view to acquiring a centralised platform for storing and integrating aerial and maritime surveillance data (SDSS). At present, the private service providers carrying out patrols at the EU’s borders use their own software. The aim of this project is therefore to bring together all the video streams, images and metadata collected during and after missions on the agency’s cloud (Frontex Azure Landing Zone). Hosted exclusively in the European Economic Area and subject to the EU Data Protection Regulation (EUDPR), this system provides for the automatic deletion of superfluous footage, the exclusion of facial recognition and strict access monitoring for the Fundamental Rights Officer. Frontex specifies that this is merely a preliminary market consultation ahead of a possible call for tenders. Companies have until 20 September to submit their proposals.
