France’s Denis Redonnet to coordinate work on EU-China trade relations at European Commission

24/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – France’s Denis Redonnet, Deputy Director-General at the Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) (see EUROPE 12535/22), has been designated as the European Commission’s point of contact on trade relations with China. According to our information, the President of the European Commission directly asked him to take charge of this file. The Chief Trade Enforcement Officer and his team are responsible for exchanges with negotiators sent by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. Discussions with the Chinese authorities will continue over the summer and the European Commission will take stock in October. Mr Redonnet will then report on the progress of the discussions to the European Parliament, as he announced to MEPs in mid-July (see EUROPE 13909/16). (JV)
