16/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 July, European External Action Service spokesperson Anitta Hipper strongly protested “the unjustified decision by Burkina Faso to expel two diplomats from the EU Delegation, for which we have received no explanation”. According to the Burkina Information Agency, the measure, which was announced on Wednesday 15 July, concerns the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Burkina Faso, who is also the head of the Political, Press and Information section, along with a programme officer in the EU Delegation. They have three days to leave the country. On 22 June, the Head of the Delegation was summoned by Burkina Faso’s foreign minister in retaliation for a European Parliament resolution, described as “hostile” and “interference in internal affairs” of the country (see EUROPE 13891/22). “The ambassador (of Burkina Faso to the EU) was summoned and response measures will follow”, Mrs Hipper warned on X.
