16/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 July, the European Commission approved a Czech mechanism seeking to boost electricity generation and storage under the ‘CISAF’ framework, which encourages investment in clean technologies until the end of 2030 (see EUROPE 13667/26). The measure, in place until 2036, will remunerate participating companies that either generate electricity and provide storage capacity, or reduce their consumption in response to falls in electricity supply. These companies will be selected through a tender process according to criteria (the amount of aid requested per MW of capacity available in the event of a shortage), as well as technical requirements designed to ensure a reliable and available capacity. This capacity mechanism will be financed through a levy imposed on consumers, at an estimated cost of between €3.1 billion and €6.2 billion. The Commission considered the Czech mechanism necessary, appropriate, and proportionate. (MB)
