European Commission updates Blue Book traineeship programme rules

16/07/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 July, the European Commission announced an update to the rules of its Blue Book traineeship programme, now allowing vocational education and training graduates to take part. The updated framework also improves the grants and allowances structure, thereby strengthening the financial conditions available to trainees, it said in a press release. Additionally, the Commission says these new rules strengthen its commitment to inclusion, fairness, and a safe working environment. The revised framework puts more emphasis on geographical balance, the Commission added. The updated traineeship rules will come into effect from the session beginning in March 2027. Applications for that session will be open from 22 July to 4 September.
