18/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Thursday 18 June, with 476 votes in favour, 11 against and 75 abstentions. The resolution calls for pragmatic dialogue with the military authorities of Burkina Faso on migration management, security and the fight against terrorism, while also supporting closer ties with ECOWAS. Parliament expressed concern about the growing repression of civic space, marked in particular by the recent dissolution of political parties and hundreds of civil society organisations, as well as pressure exerted on journalists and opponents. MEPs stressed that the immediate priority must be the fight against armed Islamist groups, in a context of continued deterioration in security. They also advocate for European support for reforms promoting civil liberties, combatting corruption and strengthening public institutions. Link to the resolution: https://aeur.eu/f/mev (BD)
