05/06/2026 (Agence Europe) – In her draft report (https://aeur.eu/f/m6s ) published at the end of May on one of the components of the simplification package, MEP Ingeborg Ter Laak (EPP, Dutch) suggests reducing the scope of the provisions on extended producer responsibility (EPR). The European Commission has proposed suspending the requirement for producers to appoint an authorised representative in each Member State to ensure compliance with EPR obligations. The rapporteur suggests, however, that this suspension should be limited to micro-enterprises and small businesses carrying out cross-border activities within the EU. In her view, these companies generally have less administrative and financial capacity to meet current requirements, unlike medium-sized and large companies. On the other hand, the draft report maintains the current rules for producers established in third countries. (LC)
