The S&D Group in the European Parliament will be holding a day of reflection on Tuesday 9 June to define its positions on the major European issues of the day and on the forthcoming institutional deadlines, starting with the renewal of the Presidency of the European Parliament at the beginning of 2027, for which the German Katarina Barley is considered to be the group’s natural candidate to succeed Roberta Metsola (EPP, Maltese).
On this occasion, the group adopted a document of six priorities, or “flagship battles”, which will be presented on the same day at an event at the European Parliament. These priorities will guide the group’s work, with a view to the State of the Union in 2026 and beyond. These priorities include access to high-quality food for all Europeans, affordable housing, a programme for quality jobs for all, clean energy at fair prices, a European Defence Union, EU industrial sovereignty and peace, and reining in Big Tech Power.
