21/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament approved, on Thursday 21 May, the new EU rules aimed at reinforcing support and protection for victims of crime (see EUROPE 13816/30) by 440 votes to 49, with 84 abstentions. The main improvements include: - strengthening the rights of victims during criminal proceedings, including through information and emotional support at court premises; - setting up helplines to provide information via a European telephone number: 116 006; - introducing the possibility to report criminal offences online and ensuring that people whose liberty is restricted – for example, third-country nationals placed in immigration detention centres or people in institutions – can also effectively report a crime.
