European Union is releasing €175,000 to support Ethiopia, in throes of migratory and climate crisis

30/04/2026 (Agence Europe)In a press release published on Thursday 30 April, the European Union announced the allocation of €175,000 in humanitarian aid to respond to the migration and climate emergency in Ethiopia. A budget of €100,000 will be specifically earmarked for the reception of South Sudanese refugees in the Gambella region, where more than 110,000 people, “many of them women and children”, have already crossed the border since the beginning of March to flee military operations in South Sudan. This support will enable the Ethiopian Red Cross to provide food, drinking water and medical care to 10,000 new arrivals between now and June. At the same time, €75,000 will be allocated to the victims of the landslides and floods that recently hit the south of the country. The disaster claimed 131 lives and affected 14,000 people. (JM)
