European Commission opens in-depth investigation into Romanian aid to Cernadovă nuclear power plant

On Thursday 16 April, the European Commission announced the opening of an in-depth investigation to assess whether the support measure planned by Romania for the refurbishment and lifetime extension of Unit 1 of the Cernadovă nuclear power plant is in line with EU State aid rules. 

The support includes: - a grant of €600 million; - State guarantees for loans taken out to finance the investment; - a 30-year two-way contract for difference (CfD) to provide stable revenues for the plant;...
