11/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 11 February, the EU Council approved the extension of the mandate of the Union’s official representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Peter Sørensen, who was first appointed in January 2025 (see EUROPE 13556/34), has had his mandate extended by a further two years, until 29 February 2028. The Danish diplomat previously held the post of EU special representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as that of EU ambassador and head of delegation in Skopje and head of delegation in Geneva to the United Nations specialised agencies. The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is an EU-led negotiation process designed to help the two regions normalise their relations. Serbia claims Kosovo as its southern province and rejects its independence.
