On Tuesday 10 February, Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper II) approved draft Council conclusions establishing the budget guidelines for 2027, with a view to their formal adoption by finance ministers at the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) on 17 February.
These guidelines should serve as a framework for the Commission to prepare the draft annual budget, the last year of the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework.
The Commission will then present its draft budget, which will serve as the basis for discussions between the Member States and the European Parliament on the distribution of expenditure and funding priorities.
The text reaffirms the European Union’s commitment to continuing its financial support for Ukraine, as it did last year, and reiterates the need to preserve the annual nature of the budgetary procedure.
