04/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 February, 27 MEPs, mainly from the The Left, Greens/EFA and S&D groups, sent a letter to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the Commission, António Costa, President of the European Council, and Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, calling for restrictive measures against the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Led by Per Clausen MEP (The Left, Danish), this initiative follows reports of “massive abuses of human rights and civil liberties” in the United States and fears about the potential dispatch of ICE agents to Italy for the Winter Olympics (see EUROPE 13796/28). In particular, the signatories are calling for travel restrictions for US agents, and for them to be refused immunity and to be barred from carrying weapons on European soil. They also call for ICE to be considered for inclusion on the European list of terrorist organisations. (JM)
