EU Member States approve extension of derogation from ePrivacy directive to combat child sexual abuse

On Wednesday 28 January, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper), meeting under the Cyprus Presidency, approved without substantial amendment the Commission’s proposal to extend by two years, until 3 April 2028, the temporary derogation from the ePrivacy Directive, which allows providers of interpersonal communication services to use scanning technologies to detect online child sexual abuse.
