Brussels, 28/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – At the Stakeholder Forum of the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors on Tuesday 27 January, the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen, reiterated that a strategy dedicated to SMRs would be presented in the coming months to accelerate the development and deployment of these advanced small nuclear reactors in Europe. The Commission’s aim is to see the first deployments of this technology in the early 2030s. According to Mr Jørgensen, the forthcoming strategy will guarantee “a high degree of local content and European added value” in SMR projects, while also “advancing European leadership on Advanced Modular Reactors”. The Commissioner warned that if Europe wants to stay in the race for nuclear innovation, “we need to step up our pace”. (PLD)
