European Parliament’s Environment Committee approves agreement with EU Council on new genomic techniques

On Wednesday 28 January, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety approved the text of the interinstitutional agreement on the rules governing the use of new genomic techniques (NGTs).

The text, the result of a compromise with the EU Council, was approved by 59 votes in favour, 24 against and 2 abstentions. The EPP, PfE, Renew Europe and ECR groups voted overwhelmingly in favour of the text, while the S&D group was divided.
