16/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 16 January, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) called on the European Commission to ensure that the forthcoming Industrial Accelerator Act, expected at the end of January, creates and sustains quality jobs in services and manufacturing in Europe. In a press release, the organisation raised questions on the topic, asking: “The test of any 'Buy European' policy is simple: does it expand good employment in Europe and strengthen our industrial and service sectors, or does it subsidise low standards and offshoring?” Together with IndustriAll Europe, the ETUC is also calling for the Act to include binding social conditions to ensure that public support is only granted to companies “that create and maintain jobs in Europe, respect workers’ rights to collective bargaining on pay and conditions, provide fair pay, secure contracts and safe workplaces, or invest in training and skills”.
