European Commission authorises products containing genetically modified maize DAS1131

On 16 and 17 December, the European Commission adopted several decisions relating to genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

It renewed the marketing authorisations for maize MON 87427, rapeseed MON 88302, and soybean MON 87708 for a period of ten years in accordance with Regulation 1829/2003 on genetically modified food and feed. These authorisations cover products containing, consisting of, or produced from these GMOs—with the exception of the cultivation of these crops within the European Union.

Following a favourable scientific assessment by the EFSA (https://aeur.eu/f/k2f ), the European Commission has also, for the first time, given its authorisation for genetically modified maize DAS1131 (from Corteva Agriscience) to be placed on the market (for 10 years).

These decisions fall within the European system for authorising GMOs designed for food and feed as well as for industrial use. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
