15/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 15 December, European foreign affairs ministers took stock of the deteriorating security situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where fighting has resumed despite a diplomatic agreement between Kinshasa and Kigali brokered by US President Donald Trump (see EUROPE 13767/26). “I spoke with the ministers of Burundi, Congo and Rwanda in recent days, and it is clear that we will explore also possible next steps for the next Foreign Affairs Council because for us, it is in our interest that we remain closely engaged to avoid further escalation, as the situation is extremely severe”, said the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, at a press conference on Monday afternoon.
