On Friday 14 November, the European Commission published a proposal for an EU Council Regulation to strengthen cooperation on cross-border VAT fraud between the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), the Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and EU Member States. The main aim is to exchange information and widen access to VAT data.
The Commission’s proposals should give EPPO and OLAF immediate access to VAT data, facilitating rapid evaluation of EU-wide fraud investigations.
The proposal establishes direct and effective channels of communication between EPPO, OLAF and Eurofisc, the European network of Member State officials responsible for combating VAT fraud, so that they can share critical information in real time.
The text must now be approved by the EU Council.
