The EU27 trade ministers are hoping to have a working lunch with the US Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, on Monday 24 November. The invitation has been extended and it is now up to Mr Lutnick to accept it or not.
Until now, Mr Lutnick has been the point of contact for the European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, but the Member States could have the opportunity to ask him in person how Washington envisages the future of transatlantic trade relations, at a time when a number of disputes remain open between the two parties.
In addition to EU-US trade, the ministers are also due to discuss ties with China on 24 November, a subject that could also feature in the conversation with Howard Lutnick.
Call for continued implementation of the EU-US agreement. In a press release on Friday 7 November, the representative of the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU, AmCham, called for the implementation of the transatlantic agreement concluded in July to be pursued without delay.
In particular, AmCham urges the co-legislators to take up the Commission’s proposal to reduce tariffs on certain US products (see EUROPE 13697/4) and adopt it as is as soon as possible. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
