On Thursday 23 October, the administrative board of the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) adopted the Single Programming Document, which includes the 2026-2030 Multiannual work programme and the 2026 work programme, with a budget of €31.6 million.
In addition, Ireland’s Susan Steele has been reconfirmed for a second mandate as executive director, her current mandate expiring on 31 August 2026. She has held this position since September 2021.
The agency, based in Vigo, Spain, will continue to support Member States in coordinating fisheries control operations, developing fisheries information systems and training. It will also continue contributing to various international projects in West Africa, the Indian Ocean and Central Africa.
Activities planned for 2026 will place particular emphasis on innovation in control operations and implementing the revised Fisheries Control Regulation.
