Journalists Andrzej Poczobut and Mzia Amaglobeli win 2025 Sakharov Prize

22/10/2025 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 22 October, European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents awarded the 2025 Sakharov Prize to Andrzej Poczobut, a journalist, essayist and blogger representing the Polish minority in Belarus, and Mzia Amaglobeli, a Georgian journalist and director of online media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti. Both are in prison, and the European Parliament has called for their immediate release. By awarding them the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, “we are honouring two journalists whose courage is a source of inspiration for all those who refuse to be silenced. Both have paid a heavy price for daring to speak the truth when up against the regime, becoming symbols of the fight for freedom and democracy. Parliament expresses its support for them and for all those who continue to demand freedom”, stressed European Parliament’s president when announcing the winners. (CG)
