18/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 18 September, the European Union welcomed the ‘roadmap’ announced by Syria, Jordan, and the United States to resolve the crisis in the governorate of Sweida. In particular, it reportedly focuses on restoring essential services, establishing an inclusive local council and a representative police force, releasing abductees and detainees, and opening an international investigation into the violence that resulted in the deaths of more than 1,600 people in July (see EUROPE 13682/37). “We encourage the swift implementation of the agreement and continued dialogue among all parties, in view of reaching a sustainable solution that protects all Syrians without distinction and preserves Syria’s security, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the spokesperson for the European External Action Service emphasised in a press release.
