18/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 18 September, the European Commission approved a €7.9 billion increase in the German state aid scheme supporting the production of electricity from renewable energy sources (biomass and biogas). This increased budget will enable Germany to issue more calls for tender. These changes have been deemed “necessary and appropriate“ by the European Commission in order to increase the production of electricity from biomass and biogas. A specific quota for biomass installations already connected to a heating network will be introduced, as well as a limit on the hours of electricity production from biogas eligible for support. In addition, installation times for switching to biomass energy installations will be reduced. (FS)
