On Wednesday 17 September, the European Commission appointed the heads of its representations in Latvia, Estonia, Malta and Cyprus.
The following people have been appointed: - Latvian Andris Kuznieks to head the Commission Representation based in Riga; - Estonian Ave Schank-Lukas to head the Commission Representation based in Tallinn; - Malta’s Maria Elena Despott to head the Commission’s Representation based in Valletta; - and Cypriot Panayiotis Pourgourides as head of the Commission Representation based in Nicosia.
The EU institution has also appointed Austria’s Paul Kutos as Director of the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs.
Finally, Finland’s Mikko Tapio Huttunen has been appointed Principal Legal Adviser to the Trade Policy and WTO team within the Commission’s Legal Service. A previous appointment to the same post, made in 2023, was challenged by James Flett, an unsuccessful candidate, before the EU General Court, which annulled it last July (see EUROPE 13686/24).
