29/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 29 July, the European Commission approved a €300 million strategic electricity reserve set up by Sweden to safeguard security of supply in emergency situations. This is a capacity mechanism that remunerates resources held outside the market and mobilised only when electricity demand exceeds the available supply. This strategic reserve, which will remain in place until 2035, will be open to all projects that can contribute to the security of supply objective. This includes electricity generation, active demand-side response and storage. Generation and storage units will have to be ready to inject electricity into the grid when needed. Demand response units will have to be prepared to reduce their consumption at peak times. (LC)
