Tuscany Region criticises European Commission’s proposals on post-2027 cohesion

On Monday 28 July, Eugenio Giani, President of Tuscany Region and Vice-President of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), strongly criticised the European Commission’s proposals for the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2028-2034.

The current proposals give priority to competitiveness at the expense of local specificities, marginalising territories”, he warned (see EUROPE 13683/14).

The CPMR network considers that the proposed text represents a clear step backwards: weakened multilateral governance, unpredictability for beneficiaries and loss of responsibilities for the regions.

Given this situation, Mr Giani is announcing an active mobilisation. The Tuscany Region, via its office in Brussels, will be taking part in the negotiations alongside the #CohesionAlliance and EURegions4Cohesion networks, which bring together 149 regions of the European Union. “There is an urgent need to enter into a serious dialogue with the European institutions in order to review these proposals in depth”, concluded Mr Giani.
